What’s the difference between the HSF-300, RSF-210 and XDF-210?
The difference is the padding. The HSF-300 is our flagship, pairing hybrid horsehair and foam with Italian full-grain leather for maximum feedback and power. The RSF-210 and XDF-210 offer two distinct foam constructions: the RSF-210 features softer outer foam for a responsive, connected feel, while the XDF-210 uses higher-density foam for extra protection and structure. Both models are also approved by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Are Phenom fight gloves approved for professional fights?
Yes. The HSF-300, RSF-210 and XDF-210 are all approved by the British Boxing Board of Control, and the RSF-210 and XDF-210 are also approved by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Can I use Phenom fight gloves for amateur or white collar fights?
Usually not. England Boxing only permits gloves from its sanctioned brands in amateur bouts, with 10oz gloves at 65kg and under and 12oz above. White collar events are not licensed by a governing body, and organisers typically supply 16oz gloves and headguards on the night. Check with your club or promoter, and use our sparring gloves to prepare.
What weight fight gloves do I need?
It depends on your weight class and the rules of the governing body overseeing your contest. Under BBBofC regulations, men’s professional contests use 8oz gloves from flyweight to welterweight and 10oz from super-welterweight upwards, while all women’s professional contests require 10oz gloves. Phenom fight gloves are available in both 8oz and 10oz, but you should always confirm the required glove weight with your promoter or governing body before competing.
Can I use fight gloves for training and sparring?
Fight gloves are designed for competition rather than regular training or sparring. Their lighter weight and more compact padding offer less cushioning than dedicated sparring gloves, increasing the potential risk of injury to both you and your sparring partner. For sparring, choose appropriately weighted gloves with suitable protective padding, typically 16oz or heavier, depending on your weight and gym requirements.
While fight gloves can be used for occasional bag and pad work, dedicated training gloves are better suited to regular sessions.
